Midwest Fleadh Cheoil
Saturday, April 27, 2002 Register for the Fleadh

This is Detroit's fourth and final year hosting the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil. Next year it is slated to be hosted by the folks inSt. Louis. We can't have a successful event without your help, so we need VOLUNTERS! The Fleadh is a an exciting and dynamic music-filled day. You will be able to see and hear musicians from all over the Midwest and Canada playing their best here in Detroit and competing for a chance to go to Ireland for the All-Ireland Fleadh in August.

We need help in many areas. Stage, door monitors, runners, hospitality, etc. If you've volunteered before please consider it agin this year. Contact Fran Tyrell, or call 248-547-6419 to offer your services.

  • Yes, Id love to be a volunteer at the Fleadh
  • I can work earkly shift (approx 8am - 1 pm)
  • I can work later (appro 1pm - 5 or 6pm)
  • Not sure when I'll be available, but I can be there
  • I can work the whole day (elevates you to sainthood)

The event at the Doubletree Hotel near Detroit Meto Airport in Romulus. Directions to Doubletree Hotel. We have an online entry form available now.

Last year saw about 200 entrants from St. Louis, Chicage, Toronto, Cleveland, and parts of Kentucky and all over our area. The music was mighty and the Ceili Band and Grupaí Cheoil contest were phenominal.

You can help to support the Fleadh by purchasing ads in the programme booklet that Jim Hynes is putting together. There are ranges from hundreds of dollars for ad space or room support to $5 for a single line of good wishes.

These competitions qualify competitors for the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil held every year in Ireland in late August-September. The last All-Ireland Fleadh was in Listowel, Co. Kerry and our Crotty-Doran Branch (Detroit-Windsor) made a very good showing.

The Crotty-Doran Branch was well represented at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil, August 24-26, 2001 in Listowel, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Chelsea Sky Link: 1st Place in Harp (under 12), Tyler Duncan: 1st Place, Bodhran, Tyler Duncan: 3rd Place, Uilleann Pipes, Virginia Blankenhorn: 3rd Place, Womens Singing in Irish.
