2003: Detroit IMA
Dan O'Kennedy

To say Dan was active in Irish affairs would be a gross understatement. Dan was chairman of national Irish American comittees, founded several Irish American organizations and was chairman of many of them at once. He had audiences with politicians on both sides of the Atlantic and was well known in Irish and American political circles.

An ardent Irish nationalist, Dan and his wife Gertie loved Irish culture, dance and music. Although Dan himself did not play an instrument he founded the Detroit branch of Comhaltas, seeing that the annual tour of the group from Ireland was a success in Detroit.

He founded and ran the Detroit Feis which continues to this day.
