Online Registration Deadline Extended till Saturday, May 3rd...
The Midwest Regional Fleadh Cheoil (pron: fla-ah key-ol, meaning music festival) is held every year with over 200 musicians competing from around the Midwest. This year, it's Detroit's turn at hosting the Fleadh. All events are at the Doubletree Dearborn and are open to the public for a nominal charge. Anyone playing traditional Irish music on a variety of instruments may compete...no previous experience necesary. For more info and online registration, go to www.MidwestFleadh.com site...

The Detroit Irish Musicians Association offers classes on Thursdays. to adults but focused on children and young adults, all skill levels, in tin whistle, flute, fiddle, concertina, harp, Irish language, and set dancing at the Gaelic League in Detroit.

David Bowen Elected Chair for 2008
We held our Annual General Meeting of the Detroit IMA at the Gaelic League on November 27th. Most positions were carried over except David Bowen as the new Chair od Detroit IMA and Cheryl Perkins (sorry Jim) as Public Relations Officer (PRO).

Call for Volunteers!

Doubletree Dearborn Fleadh Detroit will be host to the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil. Thanks to Sean Fallon and Charlene Snow who worked to get things lined up we have a first class venue and the date is set. We have Bohola lined up for a Friday night concert/ceilí. Contact Charlene Snow

Erin Brooker and Siobhan McKinney Our own Síobhan McKinney was awarded first place in the 12-15 Harp competition. Congratulations, Siobhan! We are proud of you!
We are also very proud of all of our musicians from the Midwest that traveled to Ireland to compete. Congratulations to Erin Brooker who took third contest along with Síobhan! Pics posted...


Sean KeaneView Concet at Kennedy Center
Sean Keane with the Perkins'
Detroit Ceilí band drummer, Jim Perkins along with daughter Alison (winner of U18 Fiddle at Midwest Fleadh) hitched up with Sean Keane and toured throughout the U.S. One of the gigs was at the Kennedy Center in Wash DC. Asher Perkins joined in for atune or two. You can watch the entire performance here. Well done Jim, Alison and Asher.


2007 Detroit Ceilí Band
The Detroit Ceilí Band celebrates their 3rd place finish at the Midwest Fleadh (out of 4). We were actually just glad to finish with dignity relatively intact and vowed to practice at least once before Fleadh next year.
